Desnia moved from Karanganyar, Indonesia to Vancouver in early 2023. It was supposed to be a multi-year work trip, see the world and experience new cultures. Des joined the Vancouver Girlfriends Facebook group and started hanging out with them to experience social events in Vancouver almost every weekend. Eventually they encouraged her to start dating and she met David.
David had been living in Vancouver for a decade by this point, and was looking for his soul mate. He and Des hit it off, and Des knew she had a keeper when he sent her a link to a flan shader later that evening.
The two spent many weekends dating around New West that spring. They visited the restaurants, went on hikes, and discovered their first real romance together. In the early fall, they bought a table so they could eat at her apartment and stop dining out. It was getting serious!
In October of 2024, David and Des went to Indonesia to visit Des' parents. There, they got married surrounded by her friends and family. It was a bit of a close-run thing, too - they'd had to wheel David out of the hospital the night before. With mere hours to go, they went to bed and woke up in the morning in time for the ceremony!
We are looking forward to what the future will hold - with luck, a house, careers, and a happy, healthy family. We look forward to having you here with us to celebrate our marriage! We couldn't have done it without the love and support of our family and friends.
Following David’s parents, we’re celebrating our wedding at the increasingly historic Minnekhada Lodge in Coquitlam, BC.
For those travelling in, we’ve secured a group rate at Accent Inns Vancouver Airport. (Use the code WEDDING
when registering!) Please let us know if you are staying at the hotel, so that we can coordinate rooms and rides on the big day.
"West Coast Business Casual"? No need to get too fancy, a button-up shirt and some nice pants or a dress will do. The ceremony may be outdoors, and you will have to walk to the lodge. Dress comfortably!
